Cyclocross has come a long way in the last few years, once the preserve of the road cyclist wanting to retain their fitness during the off season, now a sport all of its own with numerous variations and adaptations.
We were one of the first to see the potential of an all day, multi purpose, ruff stuff, adventure bike that could also be raced. This foresight served as the foundation for our CXR development, thus enabling us to create what we believe to be one of the finest, multi purpose, race ready ranges in the market to date.
Key decisions were made early in our R&D processes to adopt technologies that would ensure that the bike performs optimally over multiple terrains without compromise. The tube shapes and carbon grade has been selected and layered specifically to ensure that the properties of the material are aligned with the requirements of each tube section, for example, the seat and chain stays need to be torsionally very stiff for efficient power transfer yet vertically compliant for vibration reduction and comfort.
The Carbon CXR models use Boardman’s top of the range C10 carbon and the high grade X9 alloy tubing on the CXR 9.0.
Equally as important as the frame material engineering is the geometry design. The versatility of the CXR means that a geometry is required that is responsive yet stable on multiple terrains and allows the rider to tune their position for both race situations and endurance riding.
Thru-axles - both front and rear - offer significant increases in stiffness and when combined with our tapered carbon fork provides confident and engaging handling. Considered placement of the full outer cabling on the 9.0 and internal cabling on the carbon models allow for trouble free shifting in even the wettest, muddiest of conditions whilst allowing you to shoulder the bike easily and comfortably. With the addition of both rack and mudguard mounts throughout the range and a geometry that is equally at home on the International race circuit as it is on the daily commute prove without a doubt that this is a highly versatile CXR range.
