      Boardman's C10 Carbon uses ultra high modulus fibres in key areas of the frame, boosting stiffness whilst reducing overall frame weight

      Boardman's C10 Carbon uses a mixture of Toray T1000 and T800 or equivalent fibres. These high modulus fibres have outstanding stiffness to weight ratios, meaning that we can use less material to produce the same level of stiffness compared to lower grade fibres. This in turn means we can shape tubes more dramatically to tune the performance of the frame to suit the type of riding it is designed for. In the AIR range, the use of C10 Carbon facilitates a highly aerodynamic down tube and seat tube, comfort enhancing seat stays, and incredibly stiff chain stays for outstanding power transfer.

    • i Aero Optimised Frame

      The tube profiles of the frame and fork have been developed in the wind tunnel to maximise airflow and minimise wind resistance in real world wind conditions

      The AIR platform underwent countless hours of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and wind tunnel testing in order to produce the fastest frameset possible within the constraints of the UCI rulebook. We tested across multiple yaw angles to make sure the AIR platform is fast in real world conditions, not just theoretically in a wind tunnel.

      Our forks are amongst the deepest in the industry, keeping the air flow smooth over the front of the bike. We've used a proprietary aerofoil profile on the down tube, seat tube and seat post where the biggest aerodynamic gains can be made - keeping the airflow attached to the tubes and minimising turbulence. The rear triangle is narrow to reduce the frontal area of the frame.

    • i Profiled Forks and Stays

      The inner and outer surfaces of the forks and seat stays are profiled to reduce turbulence created by a rotating wheel

      Not only are your wheels moving forwards through the air at the same speed as you are, they are also rotating, and this brings its own aerodynamic challenges. Our research showed that the turbulence created by a rotating wheel interfacing with the frame and forks was a significant source of drag. To address this we profiled the inner and outer faces of the seat stays and fork legs to reduce the interaction of the rotating air with the frameset. We created as much space between the sides of the wheel and the frame as possible without increasing the frontal area more than necessary.

    • i Tapered Full Carbon Fork

      A tapered, full carbon fork with a 1 1/2 inch lower headset bearing increases stiffness and steering precision

      The interface between the fork and the headtube is responsible for transmitting all of your steering inputs into your wheels, so is a key component in giving you confidence in your bike's handling.

      We use an oversized 1-1/2" lower headset bearing to allow a smoother flow of fibres from the fork crown into the steerer tube, increasing both stiffness and durability of the fork. This translates into better steering feel and control, whether carving down an alpine descent or sprinting for the line at the head of the peleton.

      The rear brake is located below the BB to maximise clean airflow at the rear of the frame

      There is no doubt that spending hours in the wind tunnel to hone the aero performance of a frame and forks, then bolting on an aerodynamically compromised external brake is an illogical approach to going faster. With this in mind, the T8 and T9 forks developed for the AIR range hide the brake within the structure of the fork, significantly reducing drag versus a standard brake.

      Don't worry about braking being compromised in the pursuit of aerodynamics though; these mini v-brakes have plenty of power and modulation to bring you to a stop in a safe and controlled manner.

      The T9 fork also hides the front brake cable within the steerer tube, making it the sleekest brake in the market. 

    • i PF30 Bottom Bracket

      PF30 gives a wider bottom bracket shell allowing us to profile chain stays for excellent aerodynamics and keep the bottom bracket stiff to provide outstanding power transfer

      The PF30 bottom bracket comprises of bearings in a plastic housing pressed directly into the frame. This means that the bottom bracket shell can be wider compared to a threaded bottom bracket as the bearings sit inside the frame, not outside. We've taken full advantage of this additional width to provide a solid and stiff junction between the BB and the chain stays to ensure your power is going into the road as efficiently as possible.

    • i 4 Position Seatpost

      The saddle clamp can be moved between 4 different positions on the seat post, allowing you to adjust the effective seat tube angle from 73°-75° for road, TT or Triathlon use

      Bike fitting is a complicated science, trying to find the best balance between comfort, power output and aerodynamics. With the 4 position seat post on the AIR platform, you have a huge range of adjustment to get the perfect fit. Being able to adjust from a 73°-75° seat tube angle also means the bikes can be used for mutliple disciplines, ride on the road at the weekend, then slide your saddle forwards and fit some aero-bars for a mid-week time trial.
